Two-vehicle accident in New Jersey injures several
Residents of New Jersey are aware that in addition to mass transit vehicles, such as buses, automobiles on major roadways can carry several passengers. Tragedy can strike at any time on the road and when a vehicle carrying several passengers gets into an accident, the collision can involve numerous victims. Moreover, a crash involving larger vehicles could create a huge accident site. This could lead to significant damage, road delays and closures.
Emergency crews were recently called to a serious accident that involved a passenger van and a box truck. The crash occurred on Interstate 78 going eastbound in Clinton at around 3:30 p.m. Both vehicles involved overturned on the roadway just east of exit 20 on the Interstate.
When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they tended to all the victims involved. It was reported that 14 people suffered injuries in the collision and the most severe injury was a broken leg. It was not determined how many people were in each vehicle. All those injured were transported to the hospital for treatment. The eastbound lanes of I-78 were shut down temporarily following the accident for investigation and clean-up.
This truck accident is still under investigation and authorities have not determined the cause or any fault in the collision at this time. If liability is determined and a driver was negligent, that driver could be liable for any injuries suffered or damages sustained. An injured party could file a personal injury claim to recover any compensation to cover medical bills, damages and pain and suffering.
Although some accidents just happen and cannot be avoided, drivers and passengers should take the necessary precautions to avoid serious injuries if an incident were to occur. Furthermore, drivers of large vehicles containing several passengers should use extra caution. The blind spots in larger vehicles are often bigger and checking mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes of slowing down can help avoid a collision.
