IKEA’s safety gates might not be so safe. IKEA, the global seller of ready-to-assemble furniture and other home accessories, recently announced a product recall of approximately 80,000 safety gates due to a risk of fall-related injuries. IKEA is issuing the recall after receiving reports of 55 accidents involving the safety gates, with at least 10 people worldwide sustaining related injuries due to the defective safety gates. After the recent alligator attack at Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort that left a two-year-old child dead, legal experts have wondered whether Disney would be liable in a potential lawsuit for wrongful death. Now it appears that the popular company may, in fact, be exposed in a civil suit after revelations that management at the Orlando theme park was well aware of previous incidents and unsafe conditions involving alligators and park guests. Anton Yelchin, a 27-year-old Hollywood actor who starred in the recent blockbuster Star Trek movies, was tragically killed in an auto accident involving his Jeep Grand Cherokee. Friends of Yelchin went to his Studio City CA home after he failed to show up for a rehearsal. They found the actor pinned against a gate in his driveway. Hostess Brands, the bakery company that produces snack cakes under the popular Hostess and Dolly Madison brand names, has issued a recall of more than 700,000 cases of baked goods. The recalled products, which include bagged donuts, multi-pack boxes of donuts, and single-serve snack cakes, are sold throughout the United States and Mexico.
