New Jersey police looking for driver after pedestrian accident
New Jersey residents know very well that inclement weather can make travel difficult. This is not only true for those who drive, but is also true for those who walk, bike and travel by bus. Although some weather can create dangers and risks on the road, this does not stop people from traveling to work, school or stores. Even when precautions are taken, accidents can ensue. This is especially true for those who walk. Pedestrian accidents often result when a driver is distracted, negligent or reckless. In addition, pedestrian accidents are usually serious or even fatal.
New Jersey police officers returned to the scene of a recent accident that seriously injured a pedestrian. A 51-year-old man was found lying in the roadway in critical condition following a hit-and-run collision with an automobile. Authorities indicated that the pedestrian accident occurred in Maywood around 10:00 p.m. during a heavy rainstorm.
Two witnesses spoke with the police about observing a red sedan leaving the scene of the accident. One stated that they saw the car backing up and driving around the victim before fleeing the scene. In addition, a resident in the area caught some of the accident on tape. The police are still investigating the accident and are actively looking for the driver of the vehicle that struck the man.
A person injured in a pedestrian accident like this could seek compensation — through a personal injury suit — once the liable party is located. This suit would help cover any financial burdens that resulted from the accident such as medical bills, lost wages, rehabilitation costs, damages and pain and suffering.
When an accident occurs and injuries result, it can be a difficult situation to deal with. Not only will this require medical attention, but also people’s lives are significantly affected while they recover from the incident. It is important to understand any and all legal options when it comes to seeking compensation from a negligent party.
