New Jersey accident kills 2, injures 4
Two people are dead and four were injured following an accident on the Garden State Parkway in Stafford Township on July 26. An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
According to a representative of the New Jersey State Police, the accident happened at about 2:45 p.m. A vehicle containing a 45-year-old woman and her 70-year-old mother from Turnersville was heading south on the parkway when it moved into the center lane and struck a pickup. The impact caused the Saturn sedan and the Ford pickup to veer off the highway. The women died at the accident site.
The pickup’s driver suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to authorities. His wife, a passenger in the vehicle, and the couple’s children were also injured. The children were flown to a South Jersey medical center; their condition was not disclosed. The man and his wife were treated at the Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin for what are described as minor injuries. The southbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway were closed as authorities inspected the scene of the accident. No charges have yet been filed.
Car accidents in which one motorist fails to keep his or her lane and strikes another vehicle are often caused by distracted driving due to, for example, a conversation or a GPS device, or intoxication or fatigue, all of which constitute negligent driving. Following such a collision, an attorney representing another motorist who suffered injuries in the incident may review accident reconstruction reports and police records to determine liability in the crash. The attorney may also review medical records to determine how the injuries will affect the injured individual in the future and use this information to determine the damages sought in the suit. Even if the liable party perished in the crash, it could still be possible for the claim to be mounted against the decedent’s estate.
