Motorist Allegedly Drunk When She Caused Motorcycle Accident in Monmouth County, NJ
A Monmouth County NJ woman was allegedly intoxicated when she crashed her car into a motorcycle and caused a serious auto accident to a female biker in Middletown, New Jersey.
The motor vehicle accident occurred around 7:45 p.m., so there was still light outside. The motorcyclist was riding her bike near Route 36 at Leonardville Road when a vehicle allegedly slammed into her and knocked her from the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist, a resident of Fair Haven, NJ, sustained significant physical injuries as a result of the car crash. Emergency medical responders rushed to the scene of the accident and worked quickly to stabilize the injured motorcyclist. She was then transported to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, New Jersey, where doctors provided more thorough medical care and treatment for her injuries.
The woman reportedly responsible for causing the motorcycle accident is from Atlantic Highlands NJ in Bergen County. According to Stephen Dollinger, the Middletown police deputy chief, the motorist showed signed of being highly intoxicated and under the influence of alcohol. A breath test later revealed that she was above the legal limit of .08 percent blood alcohol concentration (BAC). As a result, she faces charges for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), which could lead to severe penalties that include loss of her NJ driver’s license, points on her driving record, and heavy monetary fines.
Depending on the outcome of the traffic charges against the vehicle driver, it’s possible that she could also be liable for damages in a personal injury lawsuit. That’s because negligence is often a determining factor in car accident cases – especially when the case involves a drunk driving accident. In this case, the injured motorcyclist could potentially sue the motorist and seek compensation for the costs of her medical care, rehabilitation expenses, property damage to her bike, and pain and suffering.
