Man charged for fleeing crash that killed couple and unborn child
The aftermath of an accident is often tragic. A fatal car accident can lead to panic, which may cause a driver to flee the scene of a wreck. A hit-and-run incident not only creates problems for the investigation of the accident, but causes dismay for the family of the deceased. Understanding the cause of a car crash may be a lengthy process, especially when there are fatalities involved, and a fatal multi-vehicle accident can include many details and could take time to evaluate.
Authorities arrested a man who was involved in a hit-and-run accident that resulted in three fatalities. The New York man, who was surrendered by a friend, was indicted on charges associated with fleeing the scene of an accident that killed a husband, his pregnant wife and their unborn child. The preliminary investigation indicated that the car carrying the couple was at a stop sign when the collision occurred, but it is unclear whether the driver stopped.
The 44-year-old man who was arrested for the hit-and-run accident stated that he was fleeing a gunman when he crashed into the vehicle and had to continue driving on in order to avoid being shot. Police have not found any reports of gunshots being fired in the area at this time.
The investigation of the fatal car crash is ongoing. The loved ones of the deceased could file a wrongful death claim for compensation for the lost lives and the expenses incurred because of the incident. An award from the suit could cover medical bills, funeral costs, damages and pain and suffering. The loss of a loved one cannot easily be compensated, but a wrongful death suit could assist with the financial burdens associated with the incident.
