Head-on New Jersey Turnpike collision leads to two deaths
Residents of New Jersey are well aware that accidents occur on the NJ Turnpike and can cause traffic and create long delays. Car accidents on the Turnpike sometimes result in serious injuries and even fatalities. Late night road conditions can sometimes contribute to accidents. Drivers might have poor night vision or be too tired to operate a motor vehicle. Drivers should always be aware of their ability to safely drive both at night and during the day.
A head-on collision occurred recently on the New Jersey Turnpike during the late night hours. Emergency crews responded to the incident. Both drivers died. A passenger in the Escape was hospitalized; his condition was unknown at the time of this writing. After a preliminary accident investigation, the police believe that the head-on collision occurred because one of the vehicles was traveling the wrong way on the northbound side of the road. Investigation of the accident was ongoing and at the time of this writing police had not yet determined which driver was at fault.
A person injured or killed in an automobile collision may have a personal injury claim or a wrongful death suit against a negligent driver. The injured party can seek damages for medical bills, loss of income, and rehabilitation. The loved ones of a deceased victim can seek compensation for funeral costs, loss of support and loss of companionship.
Drivers should always be aware of the road conditions and whether they are in a condition to properly operate an automobile. It is important to avoid driving when too fatigued. It is also crucial to watch speeds, pay attention to posted signs and signals and avoid texting while driving.
