FedEx driver killed outside his truck while making deliveries
An employee carrying out the day-to-day duties and activities may never encounter any dangers in their work environment. Even those who work in a low-risk job could encounter a serious and even fatal accident, which makes workers’ compensation a necessary benefit. Even when all safety guidelines and protocols are followed, the unexpected could occur causing serious injuries or even death to the employee. The benefit of workers’ compensation allows for any expenses incurred and financial burdens to be covered.
A FedEx driver working in Middlesex County was stuck by another vehicle while he was making deliveries. The driver parked his truck in a residential neighborhood in Woodbridge when a Dodge Caravan slammed into him and his parked delivery truck. At the time of the crash, the deliveryman was standing at the back of the truck. Emergency crews responded to the incident and pronounced the FedEx driver dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge was transported to the hospital and is reported to be in critical condition.
Authorities are still investigating the collision but have not filed charges at this time. They have not determined or purported the cause of the crash. The family and loved ones of the deceased could file a wrongful death claim or a workers’ compensation claim because the incident occurred while he was working. Compensation from the claim would go toward any expenses incurred from the incident. Funeral costs, lost wages and pain and suffering could all potentially be covered by the claim.
Dealing with the death of a loved one can be emotional and can cause life-altering hardships. Financial burdens could result, which makes workers’ comp benefits important.
