Camp bus and truck collide injuring 7, including 6 kids
Even during the summer months, New Jersey residents can still see school buses on the roadway. Although the average student has the summer off, school buses are often utilized for summer programs and camps. Children are transported for both short and long distances on buses. During these trips, there is always a small likelihood that the children could be injured in an accident. A bus accident could result in multiple victims with serious injuries.
An accident involving a school bus and a pick-up truck occurred in Old Tappan. The collision took place on Orangeburg Road near the intersection of Zotti Avenue while the bus was in route from a local day camp. According to the preliminary report, the school bus rear-ended the truck when it slowed down to turn into a driveway. Details about the speed of the vehicles and whether the truck used a turn signal were not reported at this time.
When emergency crews arrived to the scene of the accident, they assessed the drivers and numerous passengers involved. Six of the 43 children on board the bus were injured and transported to the hospital. The driver of the pick-up truck suffered some moderate injuries and was transported to the hospital. No citations were issued at the scene. The accident is still under investigation.
A person injured in an accident could file a personal injury claim to recover compensation for any injuries suffered or damages sustained. Once liability is determined and after a proper investigation is conducted; the negligent party would be liable for any injuries or damages.
When a driver or passenger suffers serious injuries, it is important that the victim understands all their available options. Expenses such as medical bills could be covered in a personal injury suit. Those injured and unsure of what steps to take should not hesitate to seek out guidance from a qualified personal injury attorney to make sure all their rights are being protected.
